How Does A Muffler Work?

A lot goes into building your car and keeping it running smoothly. So many parts make it up that it can get hard to keep track of them all. Still, learning about it bit by bit can help you understand it better and hopefully spot signs of damage when they pop up. To help you with this, we’ve come up with an overview of how your muffler works:

Engine Noise:

Your engine creates a lot of noise that fires down your exhaust and could disturb many people. To avoid this, your exhaust has a muffler built in that decreases the noise pollution. These mufflers have things called “baffle chambers” that cause the sound waves to bounce around inside them, hitting each other until they cancel each other out.

Performance:

The usefulness of your muffler goes beyond merely dampening the noise from your engine. They can also increase your fuel performance. Many different kind of mufflers exist that offer different benefits.

Do you understand this part a little bit better? We hope so. If you need muffler repairs, or most any other auto repair, Newton’s Car Care has you covered. For more information, come by and see us or give us a call.
